INTRODUCTION
kuiper belt is an area of our solar system that is estimated to stretch across 20 AU of space.it is contains small asteroid and some big asteroid size of Pluto.this things made mostly of ice and other gases such as ammonia,nitrogen,methane and water.
the kuiper belt extends from roughly the orbit of neptune at 30AU to 55AU from sun.the main objects of this belt covers much of this region.
FACTS ABOUT THE KUIPER BELT
1.there could be more than a trillion comet nuclei in the main body of the kuiper belt.
2.the largest kuiper belt family members are pluto, makemake, haumen, lxion, quaoar etc.
3.the ices in the kuiper belt data back to the formation of solar system.
There have been more than a thousand objects discovered in the Kuiper Belt, and it’s theorized that there are as many as 100,000 objects larger than 100 km in diameter. Given to their small size and extreme distance from Earth, the chemical makeup of KBOs is very difficult to determine.
However, spectrographic studies conducted of the region since its discovery have generally indicated that its members are primarily composed of ices: a mixture of light hydrocarbons (such as methane), ammonia, and water ice – a composition they share with comets. Initial studies also confirmed a broad range of colors among KBOs, ranging from neutral grey to deep red.
